The Remote Sensing working group is one of a number of thematic clusters set up within the Geo-Information specialisation in early 2003. The remote sensing (RS) or “Earth observation” (EO) theme deals with the acquisition and analysis of spatial data through geo-information and RS techniques:
- Image processing techniques – classification, segmentation, aggregation, change detection, data fusion, data mining, neural networks and wavelets
- Physical parameter estimations – atmospheric correction, BRDF, vegetation parameters estimates such as LAI, fAPAR, coverage, albedo, emissivity, plant and soil temperatures, soil moisture and VIS/SWIR-TIR-MW synergy
- Data assimilation – coupled numerical modelling of complex water-soil-vegetation-atmosphere systems by assimilation of satellite observations
The working group has four objectives:
-
Enhancing collaboration among CGI colleagues active in RS
-
Improving knowledge and information exchange among CGI colleagues and with others
-
Supporting ongoing activities and developing new RS initiatives within the CGI
-
Contributing to the CGI strategic plan |
