CGI-team ‘spatial models and knowledge systems’ improved its international position in 2009 by contributing to the SEAMLESS and OpenMI association. Thereby it managed to claim a central role in integrated modelling and model linking research. SEAMLESS was a project funded by the European Commission to develop an impact assessment tool for agricultural and environmental policies before their implementation. Unlike many other projects, this project continues in the SEAMLESS Association, a consortium of European institutes and universities. CGI has a prominent role in the association: it provides one of the five board members (Jan-Erik Wien) and the executive manager (Sander Janssen). Linking existing as well as newly developed models is an important task in many projects. OpenMI is a standard developed for model linking and it is maintained and developed by the OpenMI association. Since March 2009 Jan-Erik Wien from Centre of Geo-Information (CGI) is member of the executive committee of the OpenMI Association. Rob Knapen was already a member of the technical committee. CGI plays an important role in the broadening of OpenMI from the water domain to the environmental domain.
