Open Modelling Interface and Environment
Linking existing as well as newly developed models is an important task in many projects. To accomplish this task, the Open Modellling Interface and Environment (OpenMI) standard has been developed. This standard is originally a product of EU’s 5th framework project HarmonIT (www.harmonIT.org).
OpenMI is basically a set of interfaces that components are required to implement. If so, standard and exchangeable tools and engines can be used to link these components together. In our projects the user interface will be dedicated to our domain and our type of modeling activities.

In addition to the water management domain, OpenMI is also being delivered as a software standard for model linkage in the field of agricultural production, environment and mineral emission.

Background and availability
OpenMI is available as open source software under the LGPL license.
Both the .NET and the Java version are available through Sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/openmi).
The OpenMI Association (www.openmi.org) will maintain OpenMI and take care of future updates, handle requests for changes and so on.
