For fundamental research the focus is on PhD projects. Current projects are as follows:
- A monitoring system for conservation of the Cerrado’s biodiversity in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, by Fausto Weimar Acerbi-Junior
- Application of remote sensing for plant community monitoring in the Logmenhe national forest nature reserve of the Three Gorges Region, by Yuan Zeng
- Application of remote sensing for quantitative assessment of eco-environmental variabilities in Heihe riverbasin, by Xiaomei Jin
- Deriving sub-pixel information for MERIS through an integrated spatial, spectral and temporal analysis, by Raul Zurita-Milla
- Quantifying change processes in tropical rain forest areas using satellite remote sensing data, by Marion Obbink
- Assessment of seasonal variability in a boreal forest ecosystem using spectro-directional satellite data and radiative transfer modelling, by Jochem Verrelst
For applied research, the programmes of LNV-DWK, ESA and the European Union are of primary importance. In addition, Wageningen UR’s SEO programme is relevant for strategic expertise development. Some research projects are highlighted below:
