NEW! Delta Closure Conference October 4th & 5th 2007 Brussels and Antwerp, Belgium NEW! Delta Closure Conference
Has NEW! Delta succeeded its stated objective to:
'Strike a NEW Balance between ports and nature'?
Against the background of the European Birds and Habitats Directives NEW! Delta seeks to foster the protection of the Natura 2000 sites as an integral part of economic port and estuary management.
The Conference
Find out on Thursday 4th and Friday 5th October 2007, when the EU co-financed NEW! Delta project will hold its closure conference in Brussels and Antwerp, Belgium. The 2-day event highlights the results of 3 years of co-operation between North-West European port authorities, (regional) governments and related institutions from the partner member states. The study results and findings from the two environmental investment projects carried out under NEW! Delta will be presented.
Day 1
Keynote speakers will demonstrate the achievements of NEW! Delta and encourage debate with delegates from the floor. We will also step beyond the current status of the project and address the question 'where next from here?'. There will be a conference official launch of the NEW! Delta database into the public domain. This database will be used to retain and further develop the results of the project.
A project village will enable delegates to become closely acquainted with the work and results of NEW! Delta.
Day 2
While cruising by boat from Brussels to Antwerp you will be given 'on-the-spot' insights into the practicalities of balancing ports and nature through participation in an number of parallel workshops.
On arrival in Antwerp an excursion through the Antwerp Port area will reveal a trail of small scale nature enclaves within the port area, created by the Antwerp Port Authority within the scope of NEW! Delta.
Aims of the Conference
to disseminate the project results to our own stakeholder organisations, related expert networks, EU & National policy makers, environmental champions and the general public
to publicly launch the project tools
to publicly launch the project database and to present the network/database follow-up strategy
to gain input and interaction from the related expert networks on NEW! Delta's output.
'How will ports and nature co-exist 20 years from now?'
