PEER (Partnership for European Environmental Research Initiative) was founded in 2001 to combine the forces of the largest European environmental research centres. PEER research is focused on the interactions between man and the environment.

Current PEER members are:
  • CEMAGREF (France),
  • CEH (UK),
  • JRC-IES (EU),
  • NERI (Denmark),
  • SYKE (Finland),
  • UFZ (Germany) and
  • ALTERRA.
PEER leads the development of a European research area in the environmental sciences, by integrating a broad range of environmental disciplines to provide objective science-based  support for the development of a sustainable European environment. The seven member organisations employ all together 4500 persons. The combined overall annual budget is 340 Million Euro.
